C | X Display Table – Ebonised OakBased on the outskirts of Edinburgh, Studio Brophy was established in 2020. It is the work from designer and maker, Daniel Brophy, and is predated by years of practiced craft and extensive development of his own designs.
Inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese craft, Brophy emulates a design approach that is pared down and lean. In making, Brophy considers the rhythm of each piece, telling of the interaction between various components and emphasising negative space, subtle angles and intersections. This delicate tension is countered by his smaller and free form sculptural objects, which evoke a sense of fluidity and lightness.
Brophy aims to create high quality pieces with a design ethos that is conscious of the environment and sympathetic to his surroundings and a process that explores the positive psychological impact of handwork.
